Goyt Valley Ramble - Sunday 8 September

Goyt Valley Ramble, Sunday 8 September - 7 miles

Goyt Valley Ramble, Sunday 8 September - 7 miles

7 miles

A ramble through woodlands and fields along the River Goyt, beside Fernilee Reservoir and along the way passing through the pretty hamlet of Taxal with time to look at the outside of St. James Church and the churchyard. A walk at an easy pace, with time for spotting wildlife along the river and in the woods. There will also be an option to experience a brief Mindfulness walk (ie. a silent walk) through a section of woods, for about 10 minutes. There are a few uphill stretches along the walk but these can be taken at your own pace.

There has been a church on the site of St James' church at Taxal since 1286. A memorial slab of slate in the chancel records the name of Roger Jaudrell, who fought at Agincourt.

Extra Items: Binoculars if you wish. Drinks for the day and a packed lunch. Sturdy shoes or walking boots and rain proof clothing.

Event Terrain: Tracks and paths which can be muddy with a small number of stiles and a few short steep ascents and descents. This walk is not suitable for wheelchair users or children under 6 years. Children must be fit enough to walk the full 7 miles.

Event Grade: Moderate - moderate walks on ground with sometimes rough and uneven terrain and gradients.
