Drop in and join us at Castleton Visitor Centre for hands on archaeological fun and activities for all the family to learn about the archaeology of Castleton and the Peak District.

  • Meet the National Park Archaeologists and ask them questions.
  • Delve into our dig pits, and see what you can uncover.
  • Make your own Arbor Low, known as the 'Stonehenge of the North' or Bronze Age pygmy pot to take home.
  • Try your hand at our stratigraphy game - how many will you get right?
  • Learn about the recent discoveries of Castleton Historical Society as they unearth their heritage beneath our feet. https://castletonhistorical.co.uk/

We will also be joined by the Portable Antiquities Scheme's Finds Liaison Officer for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire who will be showing and identifying finds and answering questions.
