An introduction to navigation, comprising a short presentation followed by practice on a walk in the Upper Derwent Valley and up on the moors. We focus on map reading and navigating without a compass, mainly using rights of way. Learn about map scales, symbols, grid references, distances, contours and how the map portrays the landscape.
Event Grade: Moderate - walk is mostly on paths, but some rough and uneven ground. One steady climb and a very steep descent.
Extra Items: Bring OS Explorer Map. OL1 Dark Peak (1:25,000 map) if you have it.
