Beginners Navigation Training- Upper Derwent - Saturday 30 May

An introduction to navigation, comprising a short presentation followed by practice on a walk in the Upper Derwent Valley and up on the moors. We focus on map reading and navigating without a compass, mainly using rights of way. Learn about map scales, symbols, grid references, distances, contours and how the map portrays the landscape. There is an Intermediate course in June, when you can develop your skills !
Event Grade: Moderate - walk is mostly on paths, but some rough and uneven ground. One steady climb and a very steep descent.
Extra Items: Bring OS Explorer Map. OL1 Dark Peak (1:25,000 map) if you have it.
