Discover the magical Mermaid's Pool on the western flanks of Kinder Scout and hear about the Easter legend that gives it its name.  Poems and stories promise a supernatural appearance with life-changing consequences - so just what lies in store for those who catch a glimpse of the mountains mysterious mermaid?
 
This six-mile walk provides excellent views of the Kinder Plateau; descends through some atmospheric woodland; and tells the story of the controversial construction of Kinder Reservoir. It also reveals the connection between the area and one of Agatha Christie's most famous detectives.
 
Event Grade: Moderate - moderate walks on ground with sometimes rough and uneven terrain and gradients. 
 
Event Terrain: Some steep ascents with several stream crossings and rough moorland walking.
 
Extra Items: Waterproofs, strong walking boots/shoes; food and drink for the day.
 
Start: 10:00am but please arrive early to find a parking space. Finish: 4:00pm
 
Meeting Point: Bowden Bridge Car Park, 165 Kinder Road, Hayfield. The car park is located opposite the entrance to the Caravan and Camping Club site. Toilets available at the start of the walk.

Parking:  Car park is small and fills up quickly.  Parking is available along the approach road but it can also be busy so allow additional time for the possibility of having to park some distance away. 
 
Cost: £10 per person. Children aged 17 and below go free on any suitable event.
