Building on the learning from the Intermediate course, a short classroom presentation will be followed by practice on a walk across the Kinder Plateau. The course extends the use of map and compass for navigation and introduces some advanced techniques, including walking on a bearing over difficult terrain; leapfrogging; back bearings; resection; aiming-off; handrailing and attack points. A Route Card will be completed before setting out on the walk.
Event Grade: Moderate to Hard - moderate walks on ground with sometimes rough and uneven terrain and gradients. Hard = longer more challenging walks usually with ascents and descents and rough terrain.
Extra Items: OS Explorer map (1:25,000) OL1 The Peak District – Dark Peak Area. Silva Expedition compass, or similar. Pen or pencil.
Event Terrain: The walk starts on a good footpath, rising gradually before steepening across rough heather moorland and peat groughs. Likely to be wet and boggy underfoot in some areas.

Parking: P & D. There is no parking available at the Visitor Centre. Park in Pay and Display car park near Edale Station. From the car park, walk under the rail bridge for 200 yards towards Edale Village. Space can be difficult if the weather is good. Arrive Early!
Toilets in the P+D car park. None at the Visitor Centre.
Near Bus Route: No
Nearest Rail Station: Edale - Edale Station lies on the Manchester-Sheffield rail line. From the station, walk for 200 yards towards Edale Village to the Visitor Centre.
Dogs: No dogs allowed.
Cost: £15 per person aged 18 and above. Children aged 17 and below go free on any suitable event.
