An introduction to Macclesfield Forest, its history, its wildlife and an exploration of some ways of connecting more with nature.
Join our Rangers in exploring the living forest and its moorland surroundings and experience some simple practical 'forest bathing' 'mindfulness' techniques to get even more enjoyment from your visits to the countryside.
Macclesfield Forest covers 1000 acres on the western edge of the Peak District including two significant reservoirs, and is the home to a range of wildlife including a small herd of red deer and the largest heronry in the North West. Today it is owned and managed by United Utilities but it was once part of an ancient forest dating back to the 11th century.
The high moorland of the area gives panoramic views across the Cheshire plane towards Shropshire, North Wales and the Peak District.
